UPSC CSE Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Indian Administrative Service (IAS): Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Indian Forest Service (IFS): A bachelor’s degree in any of the following subjects: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Agriculture, or an equivalent discipline.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 years (as of August 1, 2025)
  • Maximum Age: 32 years (relaxation applicable for reserved categories as per government rules)

Number of Attempts

  • General: 6 attempts till 32 years of age
  • OBC: 9 attempts till 35 years of age
  • SC/ST: Unlimited attempts (till the 37 years of age.)

How to Apply For UPSC CSE 2025

Eligible candidates can submit their application forms starting from January 22, 2025. To apply for the exam, follow the step-by-step guide below:

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

Begin by visiting the official UPSC Online Recruitment Application (ORA) portal to initiate the registration process.

Step 2: Complete Online Registration

During Part-I of the registration, provide all necessary personal details, including your name, age, address, and educational qualifications.

Step 3: Review and Correct Details

Once Part-I registration is complete, carefully review all the details you have entered. Please note that no corrections can be made after clicking the submit button.

Step 4: Upload Required Documents

In Part-II of the registration, upload the necessary documents, such as educational certificates, ID proof, age relaxation documents (if applicable), a passport-sized photograph, your signature, payment details, and a handwritten declaration. Ensure that the photograph and signature are in JPG format.

Step 5: Choose Exam Center

Select your preferred exam center from the available options.

Step 6: Final Submission

After completing all sections, click the “I Agree” button to submit your application form. A unique Registration Number will be generated upon successful submission. Save this number and take printouts of the application form for future reference.
